Inputs

Result

Planning estimate only. Replace assumptions with your real costs, contracts, taxes, and market conditions.

How it works

  1. Enter what the sale brings in

The listing price, plus anything the buyer pays you for shipping.

  2. Enter what it costs you

Materials, the hours you put in, packaging, postage and any ads.

  3. Read the margin, not just the profit

A $6 profit on a $12 item and on a $90 item are very different businesses.

Who this is for

Pricing a new listing

Work backwards from the margin you need instead of guessing a price and hoping.

Checking an old listing

Costs drift. A listing priced two years ago may now be breaking even.

Deciding on free shipping

Absorbing postage is a price change. This shows how big a one.

Costing your own time

Labour is the cost most handmade sellers leave out, which is how a shop stays busy and broke.

Questions

What fees does Etsy actually charge?
As of September 2026, Etsy charges $0.20 per listing, a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total including shipping, and payment processing that is 3% + $0.25 in the US. Processing varies by country, and Etsy changes its rates, so check your own Payment account for the numbers that apply to you and enter those.
Why is my profit lower than the price minus materials?
Because the fees apply to the whole order, shipping included, and because your time is a real cost. Both are easy to leave out and both are usually the difference between a healthy margin and a thin one.
Should I include my own labour?
Yes, if you ever want to hire or scale. A price that only works because you are not paying yourself is a price that stops working the moment someone else makes the item.
